JOE SAUNDERS PARK

Public BBQ

Champion Lakes lives up to its name with a scenic 5-kilometre loop that draws regular visitors seeking morning jogs, sunset viewing, and peaceful lakeside moments. The park delivers barbecue facilities, outdoor gym equipment, and a playground where children explore whilst adults appreciate the serene water views from sheltered picnic areas. Walkways encircle the entire lake, with the southwestern vantage point offering particularly beautiful perspectives. The combination of cycling paths, exercise stations, and shaded seating areas creates a well-rounded recreational space that becomes someone's "happy place" week after week. Fair warning: toilet facilities are conspicuously absent, which dampens an otherwise pleasant experience. The lake itself shows signs of needing more consistent maintenance, and additional shade wouldn't go astray on sunny Western Australian days. Despite these shortcomings, the location remains popular for morning exercise sessions (mosquito-free, apparently) and weekend barbecues, particularly when the sunrise or sunset transforms the water into something rather special.

Generally, it is permissible to utilize your own gas BBQ, provided it remains under continuous supervision. However, the usage of Charcoal BBQ's is typically restricted, with the exception of parks equipped with designated charcoal disposal bins.
